Trisodium phosphate is a chemical compound widely used in many kinds of human activities, from heavy industry industries to public catering. The main property for which trisodium phosphate is valued is its ability to dissolve easily in water and create a highly alkaline medium in the liquid. As a solution, trisodium phosphate is used as a degreaser and detergent. Also, this compound easily dissolves any, even very neglected mineral deposits, scale, caked deposits. This property is effectively used for cleaning hard-to-reach places and communications, such as, for example, the internal surfaces of heat exchange and heating equipment. Trisodium phosphate in the form of a working solution is actively used for technical purposes for cleaning equipment in power engineering, machine building, pulp and paper industry, food industry, as well as surfactants in drilling operations, in the production of cement. Trisodium phosphate is an indispensable ingredient in the manufacture of detergents and cleaning agents of synthetic type. The role of this compound as an industrial cleaner is enormous. In the form of a solution they clean smoking chambers, conveyor belts and conveyors, wall and floor surfaces, food and technical utensils, glass containers for secondary use.



Trisodium phosphate is hygroscopic, with long-term storage prone to caking. It mixes well with water. A solution of trisodium phosphate with water is characterized by a strong alkaline reaction. When heated above 60 degrees, trisodium phosphate softens and begins to melt without decomposition. Explosive and fireproof.



To obtain trisodium phosphate, the disodium phosphate solution is neutralized with a caustic soda, again clarified and directed to crystallization. Due to the heat of neutralization, the temperature of the solution rises to 112 °. To reduce caking, trisodium phosphate is additionally cooled by air in augers or rotating drums.



Trisodium phosphate is used:
- in power engineering for flushing pipelines and for water treatment;
- in the pulp and paper industry as a paper bleacher;
- in the food industry;
- in the production of synthetic detergents and cleaning agents;
- as a surfactant in the production of cement and when drilling wells;
- in drilling fluids as part of a complex polymer additive to low-grade clays and powders;
- for technical purposes in the machine building, machine tool industry, where degreasing or preparation of surfaces for further processing (painting, electroplating, etc.) is required;
- as an anti-scale. The concentration of the working solution is 0.3 - 10 g / liter;
- for soaking and washing clothes. The concentration of the working solution is 10-15 g / liter. The temperature of the working solution is 30-50 ° C;
- for washing and degreasing work clothes, washing dishes and in all cases where degreasing is required. Before washing, the laundry is pre-soaked in a warm solution of trisodium phosphate (1/2 cup per bucket of water). It is recommended to leave very dirty laundry in a solution of trisodium phosphate for 2-3 hours. Then the laundry is washed and, if necessary, boiled with detergents. After washing the laundry in trisodium phosphate, it should be thoroughly rinsed in clean water.


Safety requirements

Technical control measures should be used to keep airborne levels below acceptable levels in accordance with requirements or guidelines. In the absence of applicable limit exposure limits and other instructions, it should be used only in closed systems or with local exhaust ventilation. The design of exhaust systems should allow for the evacuation of air from the source of steam or aerosol generation and people working in this place. In places with poor ventilation, lethal concentrations can be formed.
Observing safety precautions when working with the product should avoid inhalation of fumes, skin contact and clothing. Wash thoroughly after work. Keep container closed. Use only with adequate ventilation. Do not enter a closed room without proper ventilation. To prevent uncontrolled emissions, take the gas from the container to the storage tank. The vapors of this product are heavier than air, so lethal concentrations of vapors are possible in rooms with low ceilings, in closed and unventilated rooms, for example, tanks, wells, small rooms and even in equipment (degreasers) used for degreasing metal parts. Do not enter enclosed spaces where it is possible to accumulate vapors of this product, without a special breathing apparatus and an assistant for observation.
