Plasticizers. General information

Plasticizers are substances that are introduced into the composition of polymer materials to impart (or enhance) elasticity and (or) plasticity during processing and operation. The plasticizers facilitate dispersion of the ingredients, lower the processing temperature of the compositions, improve the frost resistance of polymers, but sometimes impair their heat resistance. Some plasticizers can increase the fire, light and heat resistance of polymers.
General requirements for plasticizers: good compatibility with the polymer, low volatility, no odor, chemical inertness, resistance to extraction from the polymer by liquid media, for example, oils, detergents.
The most common plasticizers are esters, for example dioctyl phthalate, dimethyl phthalate, dibutyl phthalate, dibutyl sebacate, dioctyl adipate, dioctyl sebacate, diisobutyl phthalate, tri (2-ethylhexyl) phosphate, phthalic and trimellitic acid esters, orthophosphoric acid esters. Mineral and non-drying vegetable oils, epoxidized soybean oil, chlorinated paraffins, etc. are also used.
The amount of plasticizer in the composition is from 1 ... 2 to 100% (by weight of the polymer).
The main consumer of plasticizers is the plastics industry (about 70% of the total production of plasticizers is spent on the manufacture of plastic). Plasticizers are widely used in the production of nail varnishes.
Plasticizers are also surface-active additives, which are introduced into mortars and concrete mixtures (0.15 ... 0.3% by weight of binder) to facilitate laying in the mold and reducing the water content. This improves most of the characteristics of the solidified mixture, and also reduces cement consumption, reduces energy consumption when vibrating concrete (self-compacting mixtures) or leveling screeds (self-leveling self-leveling floor mixes).
A widely used plasticizer of this type is the sulphite-alcohol bard. Later, super- and hyperplasticizers with smaller dosages, as well as antifreeze, air-entraining and other useful properties were created.



Flotation agent of T-66 brand is used in paint and varnish products, fulfilling the function of plasticizer. In addition, it can be used for oil processing, drilling of wells, flotation of ores. Flotation-agent-oxal is a liquid of yellow or brown color. The substance freezes at a temperature of -40 degrees.

Flotoreagent brand T-92 is a flammable liquid, which has a yellow or brown color. Flotoreagent oxal of this brand is produced in the process of production of dimetaldioxane during processing of runways (high-boiling by-products). A distinctive feature of the substance is that it does not separate. Flotoreagent produces a subtle aroma, which is explained by the presence in its composition of dioxane ether and alcohol. Oksal T-92 has found wide application in the production of PVC materials (linoleum, glues, artificial leather, etc.), as well as for the manufacture of rubber products. When adding the flotation agent T-92 to the plasticizer dioctyl phthalate (DOP) in the manufacture of PVC products, the humidity and osmolality are reduced. To improve the quality of compatibility with PVC, stabilizing additives are used.

The substance is a transparent combustible liquid with a weak aromatic odor. The shade has a gamut from yellow to brown. It contains more than 50% dioxane esters, as well as 50% of a mixture of 1, 2 and 3 atomic alcohols.
The liquid ignites when in direct contact with fire or hot objects, but does not interact with oxygen or water to ignite or explode.



Flotoreagent-oxal is used for the production of food film, oilcloth, linoleum, artificial leather, washable wallpaper, rubber shoes, nitro-enamel, epoxy rubber compounds, construction sealants, acrylic putties, polyurethane products and fiberglass. It is widely used in the oil and oil refining industry.

The use of the oxal T-92 in production is due to its properties:

3. Increase in melt flowability of shoe plastic
4. Simplification of processing of rubber compounds in products and reducing their viscosity

7. Improvement of technological characteristics of polyester and epoxy binders for GRP
8. Increased strength of epoxy compounds
9. Increasing the adhesiveness and stability of PVAD.


Safety requirements

The maximum permissible concentration in the air of the working zone for the most dangerous component of dioxane alcohol is 10 mg / m3. By the degree of exposure to the human body flotation agent-oxal belongs to the 3rd class of danger.

Flotoreagent oxal has mainly a toxic effect on the central nervous system, liver, kidneys. Penetrates through intact skin, without causing her irritation. It weakly irritates the mucous membranes of the eyes. Cumulative properties are poorly expressed. In case of contact with skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. At the first signs of poisoning the victim must fade to fresh air, with a loss of consciousness - do artificial respiration, call a doctor.

Working in the production and use of flotation-agent-oxal must be provided with overalls, special footwear and personal protective equipment: rubber gloves, goggles, respirators, gas mask filter BKF (in an emergency situation). Other personal protective equipment should be used in accordance with approved industry standard standards.
